(ISBN: 0 947757 96 1) The Oulipo, or Ouvroir de littérature potentielle, was founded by Raymond Queneau and François Le Lionnais in 1960 to find out how abstract restrictions could be combined with imaginative writing. Still active, it is considered one of the most original, productive and provocative literary enterprise to appear since the last war. Its literary game-player members have included Queneau, Calvino, Perec, Matthews, Jacques Roubaud, Oskar Pastior and Jean Lescure. This book contains biographical, bibliographical and theoretical information on the group, a complete encyclopedia of all its methods including dozens of techniques available for all to use.
