This is a Vintage Japanese Carved Wood Belt Buckle with two flipped mirror image sides, each measuring 2" high by about 1.25" wide with rounded corners. The hand carved design features two abstract diamonds with interior grids inside a square inside a circle (creating the look of geometric flowers) surrounded by curved and straight lines (reminiscent of leaves). The type of hard wood is unknown, but it has a rich reddish brown color with a distinct vertical grain. The closure is a simple hook and eye form in silver toned metal, which has rusted. There are two partial holes on back where the belt was apparently attached. (There is a small piece of rope still glued inside one hole.) The back of one side is stamped "Made in Japan." Maker is unknown. It is believed that this buckle was made during the 1950s. This Vintage Japanese Carved Wood Belt Buckle is in Very Good condition with no damage or wear to the wood. Being hand carved, there are slightly variations in the design and size to the two parts.
