This is a US Navy Ballistic Missile Submarine Patch for Squadron 15 (TASS), a squadron formed in 1963 in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii to take over responsibility for the submarine-based nuclear deterrent in the Pacific and establish Polaris Operations. In October 1964 the permanent assignment of Commander Submarine Squadron Fifteen was changed from Pearl Harbor to Guam. They operated from 1964 to 1981, converting to the Poseidon Weapons Systems during this time. The squadron was reactivated in 2001, providing administrative, logistics and intelligence support for submarines and submarine support ships assigned to the Seventh and Fifth Fleets. TASS appears to stand for "Tactical Automated Security System" The patch, measuring 3.5" in diameter, shows an embroidered green winged serpent with red eyes and an extended red tongue, entwining two black submarines. There is a large gold trident in the background, two gold chains along the edge, and the words "TASS" and "SQR-15".
