This is a beautifully rendered Sterling Silver Puffed Ganesha Pendant, measuring 1.875" high (2.3125" with attached loop) by 1.5" wide and about 0.25" thick. Ganesha, the Hindu god who is revered as the remover of obstacles, the patron of the arts and sciences, and deva of intellect and wisdom, is shown here in a seated position with his feet crossed on his thighs below his large belly (where all the universes past, present and future are said to be present in him). He has an elephant head with the trunk held straight in front of him and the bottom curled up. He has four arms. Three hands hold an object: an axe or goad (in his upper right hand); a lotus flower (in his upper left hand); and a sweet (in his lower left hand). His fourth hand (lower right) is raised toward the viewer in a gesture of protection or fearlessness (which is a modern feature). He has a deep triangular belly button and a sacred thread wrapped around his belly, which is a reference to a snake (one of the common features of Ganesha iconography). On his forehead can be seen a large third eye. He is wearing striped pants and an indented conical hat with a flower at its top. The back of the pendant is flat with "925" stamped on it. Maker, country of origin and exact age are unknown. This Sterling Silver Puffed Ganesha Pendant is in Very Good condition with no damage or wear.
