This is a 1993 out of print bilingual edition of Ocumicho: Arrebato del encuentro Catalog (Ocumicho: Rapture of the Discovery), published by Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes and Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes of Mexico. This catalog celebrates the fantastic imagery of impish devils, fish-eyed people, comical animals, and religious themes found in the low fired ceramics of Ocumicho, a remote town located in the western edge of Michoacan. The clay sculptures in this exhibit, inspired by the theme of the Conquest, were created by a group of Purepecha women who offer their version of a historical event that shaped the mestizo culture. It includes over 75 pages of black & white and color photographs that show the Purepecha women, the bold and colorful ceramic pieces, and historical prints of the Conquest from which imagery and inspiration were drawn. This 163 page soft bound catalog measures 7.5" by 7.5" and has its original dust jacket. This edition of Ocumicho: Arrebato del encuentro Catalog is in Very Good condition with minimal shelf wear.
