Charlie Carrillo is an award-winning santero who is considered to be one of the masters of contemporary northern New Mexican devotional art. This 128 page book (11"high x 8.5" wide) documents the major pieces he has produced since 1978 (300 of 4,500 pieces), including both retablos (flat pictures of saints) and bultos (three-dimensional statues). There are 293 color plates and 7 duotones. The text includes: a biography of Charlie Carrillo, a lengthy discussion of santos, explanations of saints and their feast days, descriptions of individual pieces, and a list of museums where the work can be seen. This copy of Charlie Carrillo: Tradition and Soul/Tradición y Alma is in Very Good condition and appears never to have been read. There is very minor shelf wear on the back cover.
