This is an Antique Stamped Brass Picture Button of an Eagle on a Shell, measuring 1.0625" (16mm) in diameter by 0.375" (10mm) thick (not including the shank). This beautifully articulated neoclassical image shows an eagle with its head in profile and its wings spread open. The bird is standing on the scrolled base of a scallop shell with finely dotted ribs. The recessed background has a fine basket weave pattern. The top half of the border is filled with several types of flowers whose leaves arch in towards the shell. The bottom half of the border has a simple raised dot design. The stamped brass has been placed over a black metal back which has a deep gray wire shank. Maker and exact age are unknown. This Antique Stamped Brass Picture Button of an Eagle on a Shell is in very good condition. No damage or wear on the front. Minor wear on the back.
