This is an Antique Portrait of Three Children by Frank D Tripp (1859-1947), a pioneering 1880 to 1900 Newton, Kansas photographer and President of the Photographers Association of Kansas (1897).  He often displayed his work in the show windows of Main Street businesses during the Cin Quinto Festivities.  Between 1900 and 1902, he moved to Pueblo, Colorado where he continued to work as a photographer at Tripp and York Photographers.  This sepia-toned black and white photograph shows three unsmiling young children in a garden-like studio setting with palm fronds and a short stone pillar covered in ivy.  On the left, the oldest child stands with her left elbow leaning on the pillar.  She has dark wispy bangs with her hair severely pulled back.  She wears a long, dark dress with a pleated V bodice and lace collar, as well as a thick gold chain with a rectangular ornament.  At center in the back is young boy wearing a dark suit with a large white Buster Brown collar and plaid bow. At right, a chubby faced younger girl is seated at pillar. She is wearing a fancy dress with two lace collars and a thick gold chain.  The photograph measures 5.5" by 4" and has been mounted on a 6.5" by 4.25" gold-rimmed tan board marked with "Tripp" and  "Newton, Kans." separated by an FDT logo.  This photograph was taken prior to 1800.  The back of the board is blank.  This Antique Portrait of Three Children by Frank D Tripp is in Very Good condition with no staining or scratches.
