This item consists of 58" (1yard +22") of the Alexander Henry Collection Fabric in the Ichimatsu Ladies (Star) Pattern. The pattern shows elongated women (with the tallest woman about 10" high) in elaborate kimonos and hairstyles, preparing to go on stage at the kabuki theater. Accompanied by assistants, they are involved in a variety of activities, including adjusting their kimonos, putting on makeup, and writing on a long scroll. The background is filled with a checkerboard and an abstract leaf design. Ichimatsu is an ancient checkerboard pattern which became popular when the kabuki actor, Ichimatsu Sanogawa wore a hakama (a man's divided skirt) with this pattern. The color palette is vibrant burgundy, pink, olive green, purple, coral and ocher, accented with white, grays and black. The fabric is woven cotton and measures 42" wide. The fabric is marked "ichimatsu ladies (star)" The Alexander Henry Fabrics Collection copyrighted 2004. This Alexander Henry Collection Fabric in the Ichimatsu Ladies (Star ) Pattern is in Very Good condition and has never been used.
