This is a barrel-shaped African Copal Bead, measuring 0.9375" (24mm) thick by 1.1875" (30mm) in diameter and weighing 16 grams. Copal, also known as African amber or faux amber, is a phenolic resin or Bakelite which was made in Germany beginning in 1920 for trade to Africa. Each bead is handmade and has its own character and variations. This bead is a translucent tangerine color with subtle darker orange streaks within. It has a 0.125" (3mm) hole which has been placed off-center. Age is unknown. This African Copal Bead is in Very Good condition with no damage or wear.
