These are the 1943 Book Covers from Watchwords of Liberty, written and illustrated by Robert Lawson and published by Little, Brown & Co. of Boston. Each cover, measuring 10.25" high by 7.4375" wide, is covered in a deep mustard color bookcloth. The front cover is printed in deep red with a grouping of a lit torch, six horizontal arrows, and a striped swag; "Watchwords of Liberty" (at top), and "With Text and Illustrations by Robert Lawson (at bottom). The back is plain bookcloth. The drama of this set of book covers is in the interior. Here, in a continuous and patriotic red, white and blue design, there is the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag (in a banner across the top), a waving flag (on the left hand side), and a group of fourteen children of different races standing before a landscape of farms, factories and city skyscrapers (on the right hand side). The two covers are no longer connected by the spine. These 1943 Book Covers from Watchwords of Liberty are in Very Good condition. There are no stains but slight denting to the exterior corners.
