This item consists of two 1930s Whitney Made Valentines.  The Whitney Made Company of Worcester, Mass. made cards from 1880 until World War II (when paper shortages caused them to close their doors permanently).  Although they made a variety of holiday cards, they became known primarily for their valentines.  In 1915, Worcester Magazine assessed that "ninety percent of the valentines that are exchanged on St. Valentine's Day come from Worcester."  The valentine on the left shows a young boy in a Little Lord Fauntleroy black suit with a large white collar, standing behind a young girl wearing a pink dress and large bow and holding his hands over her eyes.  They are inside a heart surrounded by flowers with light blue petals.  Below them are three pink hearts with flowers.  Inside, there is a black and white illustration of the same children sitting side by side with a poem.  This card's decorative scalloped border measures 3.875" high by 2.5" wide and is marked with the Whitney Made logo on back.  There is a pencil inscription saying "To Lucile M. from Signe."  The valentine on the right shows a young blonde haired girl carrying a doll on her shoulders.  She is surrounded by a wide border of hearts, flowers and a netted cross.  Inside, there is a black and white illustration of the young girl lying in front of round mirror with a poem about her being the only girl in the world for him.  This card's decorative scalloped border also measures 3.875" high by 2.5" wide and is marked with the Whitney Made logo on back.  There is a pen inscription saying "Ruth from Janet."  Both 1930s Whitney Made Valentines are in Very Good condition on front and inside.  Both backs show signs of having been mounted in an album.
