This is a 1930s Whitney Made Valentine with Doily Border.  The Whitney Made Company of Worcester, Mass. made cards from 1880s until World War II (when a paper shortage caused them to close their doors permanently).  Although they made a variety of holiday cards, they became known primarily for their valentines.  In 1915, Worcester Magazine assessed that "ninety percent of the valentines that are exchanged on St. Valentine's Day come from Worcester."  This large valentine, measuring 6.375" high by 5.25" wide, shows a boy with a suitcase and a girl with a purse looking at hearts in a story window, as the boy lovingly holds the girl's arm.  They are both dressed in their best clothes.  The circular scene is surrounded by an embossed doily border in white and gold with hearts and a bouquet of forget-me-nots.  Opening vertically, there is a black and white drawing of a late 19th century boy and girl with the girl playfully capturing the boy with a cord.  There is a sweet message about fairy tales "'bout me and you."  The back is marked "Whitney Made Worcester, Mass." and has "Adeline C. From Venice" written with pencil in cursive.  This 1930s Whitney Made Valentine with Doily Border is in Very Good condition with minor edge wear.
