    These are the separated 1875 Book Covers from The National Second Reader, written by Richard Greene Parker and J. Madison Watson and published by A.S. Barnes & Co., New York.  Each cover measures 6.75" high by 4.25" wide with rounded corners.  The front cover has a burnt orange background with an engraving of a mother and two children seated outside.  The boy is reading from a book, while the girl leans against him and looks down at the book from above.  The back cover also has a burnt orange background with a listing of a new series of arithmetic books by Charles Davies, Ll.D.  The vestiges of a leather spine are on both covers.  The off-white interiors are printed with "Benet's Individual Class Record"  (on the front) and "National Series of Text-Books" (on the back).  The front cover has penciled in letters and numbers as well as the cursive words "three hundred share of wheat."  These 1875 Book Covers from The National Second Reader are in Fair condition with worn edges and surface wear with two areas of the paper cover missing on back.  Ideal for use in art.
