The Magic Mirror An Antique Optical Toy

There is only 1 item left in stock.

This is a Dover paperback publication of The Magic Mirror An Antique Optical Toy, which is an unabridged republication of 24 full-color illustrations from The Magic Mirror, or Wonderful Transformations (McLoughlin Bros, circa 1900).  The distorted (or anamorphic) picture was a very popular 19th century children's parlor toy.  By using a reflecting device (a magic mirror), the distorted designs were transformed into delightful full-color pictures.  The images in this book have been reproduced from an antique set in the Gold Collection of Toys at the Museum of the City of New York.  They include a ballet dancer, Puss-n-Boots, an elephant, Sancho Panza on his donkey, a baby with a lamb, a French policeman on a bicycle, a drunkard and many more.  This 9.25" by 6" book has 48 pages of 24 illustrations printed on one side only and a silver Mylar sheet, which can be rolled into a cylinder which becomes a magic mirror.  This copy of The Magic Mirror An Antique Optical Toy is in very good condition and appears never to have been used.  (ISBN: 0-486-23847-4)
