    This is the 2007 paperback edition of The Gothic, edited by Gilda Williams (lecturer on contemporary art at Sotheby's Institute of Art in London), and published by Whitechapel as part of their Documents of Contemporary Art series.  This book provides the first comprehensive overview of the uses of the Gothic in contemporary visual culture.  It includes the stock themes of the eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Gothic novel as well as recent permutations of the Gothic in horror film theory, Lacanian psychoanalysis, and Goth subcultures.  Concepts explored include the uncanny, the motif of vampirism, fragmented bodies, and the depiction of the Other.  In 239 pages, artists' texts are complemented by literary extracts from Walpole and Mary Shelley to Stephen King and by theoretical writings from thinkers such as Julia Kristeva, Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, Marina Warner and Slavoj Zizek.  Text in English.  This copy of The Gothic is in very good condition with minor shelf wear to the exterior and Like New condition on the interior.  (ISBN  978-0-262-73186-7 and 0-262-73186-X)
