This item consists of three First Day Issue Envelopes and Stamps for the British Shakespeare Festival. Each envelope measures 4.25" high by 6.5" wide and has the same five stamps celebrating the 400th Anniversary of Shakespeare's birth. They were postmarked First Day of Issue 23 Apr 1964 Stratford-Upon-Avon. Two of the envelopes are marked Official Cover and show scenes of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Anne Hathaway's Cottage along with Shakespeare's statue in Stratford Upon Avon. The third envelope shows a portrait of Shakespeare, the tragedy and comedy masks, his cottage and six putti. There are four stamps in color with portraits of Shakespeare and Queen Elizabeth II with characters from the plays and one in black and white with Hamlet and Queen Elizabeth II. All of these First Day Issue Envelopes and Stamps for the British Shakespeare Festival are in generally good condition, although the envelope with the Royal Shakespeare Theatre is torn and missing part of the flap on back.
