This is a Mexican Sterling Silver and Abalone Swordfish Pin. The swordfish has been designed to showcase its arched back with large curvilinear and striated fin; downturned undulating and lined tail; flowing gills; and long swordlike snout. The fish appears to be leaping out of the water and into the air. Added details include a large, round dotted eye and inlaid pieces of iridescent abalone shell in shades of deep bluish-purple, turquoise, olive green and black. The pin measures 2.25" (57mm) wide by 1.875" (48mm) high and has a C clasp closure There is a maker's mark with the initials "ARB" inside a ring which includes "925" and "Mexico." The mark was stamped partially off of the piece so that it is impossible to read the rest of the inscription. It may have said Taxco, since this piece was probably produced in one of the workshops there. The age of the pin is unknown. This Mexican Sterling Silver and Abalone Swordfish Pin is in very good condition with no damage or wear.
