This is a 1966 hard cover with dust jacket first edition of Joy To the World: Christmas Legends written by Ruth Sawyer and illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman. Ruth Sawyer (1880-1970) was an American storyteller and writer of books for both children and adults. She won a Newberry medal, a Regina medal and the Laura Wilder Ingalls medal for her contributions to children's literature. The text of this book includes six unusual and varied Christmas stories from Arabia, Serbia, Ireland and Spain, each introduced by an appropriate carol. Trina Schart Hyman (1939-2004) was an American illustrator of over 150 children's books, including fairy tales and Arthurian legends. She won the Caldecott Medal and the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award. The illustrations are delicate black and brown drawings which have a beautiful peasant stylization. This 102 page book measures 9.5" high by 7" wide by 0.625" wide. It is marked First Edition. The dust jacket has a plastic book cover. This copy of Joy To the World: Christmas Legends is in very good condition. Pages are clean and the book is unmarked. The dust jacket has some minor edges tears at the top of the spine.
