There is only 1 item left in stock.
This is an unusual Indonesian Shadow Puppet Buffalo Hide Bookmark.  The Indonesian shadow puppet (known as a Wayang Kulit), a male figure with a pointed nose and long black ponytail, has been hand painted at the center of both the front and the back of the bookmark.  The image may be of Arunja, a main character and super hero in the ancient Indian epic Mahabharata and a key figure in the Bhagavad Gita beside Krishna.  There is also hand painted front and back decoration at the corners of the center panel and at the top and bottom of the bookmark.  Colors including bright gold, deep turquoise blue, marigold, pink, gray, white and back.  The buffalo hide (which is also the material used for the actual shadow puppets) has been cut out in intricate patterns, both along the edges and inside the bookmark.  The piece measures 6.25" long by 1.5" wide.  Maker and age are unknown.  This Indonesian Shadow Puppet Buffalo Hide Bookmark has been used and is in good condition.  There is some painting missing from the puppet's clothing and from the decorative corners.
