This Ethiopian Coptic Cross Pendant with Dotted Circles measures 3.25" (83 mm) long by 2.125" (54 mm) wide. It appears to have been cast in nickel silver, using the lost wax method, and then hand etched with traditional geometric designs, which are either religious or talismanic. Designs vary according to the characteristics of different Ethiopian regions and their local symbolism. Here, the square represents the Ark of the Covenant, while the multiple dotted circles are eyes which ward off the evil eye. The design is basically the same on each side, although one side appears to be "unfinished" or purposefully lacking details. Region of origin, exact age and silver content are unknown. This Ethiopian Coptic Cross Pendant with Dotted Circles is in very good condition with a beautiful patina of age and minor surface wear from use.
