This is a beautiful pair of Don Ricardo Aluminum Spurs with Leather Butterfly Design Spur Straps.  The Ricardo Metal Manufacturers company started making spurs in the 1930s in Denver, Colorado and then Victoria, Texas.  They are now considered to be one of the finest makers of Cowboy Spurs.  Made of aluminum or steel, their fancy spurs (such as these) are often decorated with flower motifs.  Each of these solidly constructed single piece spurs have a beautifully designed arched outside edge with incised leaves and a flower with eight petals. Outside button is also incised. The shank is very slightly arched and has a tooth-shaped chap guard.  There is a squared  sixteen tine rowel with a visible brass pin.  Both spurs are stamped with "Don Ricardo" in block letters.  The brown leather spur straps have an inset 2.125" by 2.75" red and white leather butterfly with yellow stitched edging; a 3.375" red and yellow stitched leaf on each side; and a yellow stitched border.  The traps are unmarked and the maker is unknown.  Ages of both the spurs and the straps is also unknown but they are at least several decades old.  These Don Ricardo Aluminum Spurs with Leather Butterfly Design Spur Straps are in Very Good condition with minor wear on the rowel and the edges of the leather.  Both the spurs and the straps had only one original owner.
