This Banjara Decorative Door Hanging has a hexagonal design filled with finely embroidered stylized birds, flowers, hearts, crosses and framed mirrors in shades of deep yellow, deep pink, green, red, and white on a black background. The piece measures 12.25" high by 11.25" wide and has been backed with another printed fabric. Brightly colored threads, inlaid mirrors and the use of stem, chain and cross stitches are classic details of Banjara embroidery, which has been derived from gypsies and nomads of Andhra Pradesh. Maker and age are unknown. This Banjara Decorative Door Hanging is in very good condition with minor wear. There are 2 or 3 yellow chain stitches missing along the left side border and a tiny hole in the background next to one of the yellow hearts. All mirrors are intact.
