This is an Antique Rebekah Ribbon Badge with Beehive Pin and Medallion from the Red Knob Rebekah Lodge No. 194 I.O.O.F. in Red Knob, West Virginia. The Rebekahs is an international service-oriented organization and a branch of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, which was started in 1851 by Schuyler Colfax. The 6.5" long ribbon is pale pink silk with silver lettering, green edging, and silver toned metal fringe. Attached to the front are: a 2 x 0.875" decorative oval silver toned framed pin with a celluloid insert showing a colorful active beehive and marked "I.O.O.F. Rebekah Degree"; a 1.25" in diameter decorative circular silver toned framed medallion with a celluloid insert showing a colorful active beehive over which flies a white, red and black dove carrying an olive branch in its beak, a red lily and seven gold stars; and a short, green woven ribbon with a silver dove holding an olive branch. Attached to the back is a black silk ribbon marked "In Memoriam" and "Red Knob Lodge No. 194 I.O.O.F. Red Knob, W. Va" in silver lettering. There are four silver symbols: a flying dove with olive branch, a crescent moon with seven stars; a beehive; and a five petaled lily. The beehive stands for cooperative industry; the moon and seven stars represent the never failing order which pervades the universe of God and all of nature; the dove, an emblem of peace, refers to the Rebekahs mission on love, charity, tolerance and forebearance; and the lily is a sign of purity of character, thought, word and action. The style of the ribbon suggests that it dates from the early twentieth century. This Antique Double Sided Rebekah Ribbon Badge with Beehive Pin and Medallion is in very good condition. There is some minor surface wear to the frames and the fringe has tarnished over time.
