This is a 32mm Chinese Silver Pendant Tray with Bats and Coins, which is missing its glass or stone cabochon. The border measures 0.25" (6mm) high and beautifully detailed openwork designs of three bats and three sets of coins (each set with three Chinese coins). The bats have spread, curved wings; tiny eyes; pointed noses; turned back ears; and round furred bodies. The Chinese coins, referred to as "eye coins," have square centers with round borders. The combination of bats and coins is a visual pun for good fortune or happiness before your eyes. There is an attached ring on top. The back is stamped with an "x" and Chinese characters (meaning unknown), which is surrounded by an etched floral design. The piece is not marked as silver but the metal polishes like silver. Age and maker are also unknown. This 32mm Chinese Silver Pendant Tray with Bats and Coins is in very good condition, although the bottom of one of the coins is missing, which may have occurred in the casting. Ideal for re-purposing.
