This is a mirror image set of 1921 End Papers by John Rae from American Indian Fairy Tales by W. T. Larned, published by P. F. Volland Co. John Rae (1882-1963) was a student of artist Howard Pyle at the Art Students League of NY. He authored and illustrated a number of children's books and contributed illustration material to more than 50 books and magazines. Measuring 9" high by 5.875" wide, each of these papers shows a cartoon style Native American brave, dressed in buckskin leggings and moccasins with a beaded headband, a decorative braid, and one feather, peeking out from behind a colorful Native American blanket with an abstract design. The color palette has rich tones of blue, yellow, red and green with grays, brown and black. The backs are off-white.
