This is the 1883 Front Book Cover from Owen Meredith's Lucile, a narrative poem by Robert, Lord Lytton, originally published in 1860 under the pseudonym of Owen Meredith. The story is one of love, misunderstanding, feud, loss, and the reconciliation of the heirs. The book had more than ninety editions produced in America. This 7.25" high by 4.75" wide cover has embossed gilt and black decorations of an ornate urn with daisy-like flowers and a two undulating leaf borders on a rich deep blue cloth background. The title appears is "carved out" of a gilt field with Greek Key and leaf decorations. The back of the cover has a deep olive colored end paper with a label that reads: "From C. M. Reed & Co. Booksellers & Stationers, Washington, Penn'A." This 1883 Front Book Cover from Owen Meredith's Lucile is in Better than Good condition. There is a very slight warp to the board, small light spots near the top of the cover, and small areas of corner wear. Ideal for use in art project.
