These are the 1873 Book Covers from The New Normal Mental Arithmetic by Edward Brooks, part of The Normal Series of Mathematics published by Sower, Potts & Co. of Philadelphia. The front and back covers are covered in grayish tan paper with an illustration of the bust of (Johann Heinrich) Pestalozzi under a neo-classical arch and columns with lions. Pestalozzi was a late 18th century educational reformer who exemplified Romanticism in his approach. He established educational institutions in Switzerland and wrote many work explaining his modern principles of education. The back cover and inside both covers lists other books by Brooks and other publications by Sower, Potts & Co. Each cover measures 6.75" high by 4.25" wide. The spine is missing. These 1873 Book Covers from The New Normal Mental Arithmetic are in good condition with minor wear and some staining. Ideal for collage or other art project.
