This knight chess piece is a 1924 New York International Chess Masters Tournament Souvenir. Better known as "New York 1924," this tournament included chess players Emmanuel Lasker, Jose Raoul Capablanca (world champion), Frank James Marshall, Alexander Alekhine, and Carlos Torre. The elite chess event was held at the Alamac Hotel in New York City from March 6 to April 18, 1924. This handcrafted and painted wood souvenir has an ivory horse's head on a tiered black base. It measures 3" high by 2.375" in diameter (at the basis) and was made, as well as given out, by the Olympic Woodworking Company of New Haven, Conn. The bottom of the piece reads in gold lettering on black: "International Chess Masters Tournament Alamac Hotel New York 1924" with "Compliments of Olympic Woodworking Company Inc. 211 Park St. New Haven, Conn, USA" in the border. This 1924 New York International Chess Masters Tournament Souvenir is in very good condition with only a small ding on the base at back.
