This 1879 double page color print of Raiadae and Petromyzidae (Rays and Lampreys) is from W.F. Kirby's Natural History of Reptiles, Fishes, Amphibias, Insects, Worms, Mollusca, Zoophytes, & C. for the Use of Young People, which was published in London by the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge. The print shows an Eagle Ray, a Torpedo, a Thomback Skate, a Lamprey, a Lampern, a Small Lampern, and a Mud Lamprey in motion. The print measures 15.625" wide by 12.75" high and has been printed in browns, grays, blues, and yellows (with touches of pale green, pink and orange) on fragile paper with a high acid content. The engraving is in good condition, having retained its original colors, sharp lines, and details (such as spines). The border, however, has discolored and torn, including a 1.5" tear along the bottom of the fold line. Ideal for framing.
