This 1879 double page color print of Physostomi (Minnow, Barbel, Salmon &c.) is from W.F. Kirby's Natural History of Reptiles, Fishes, Amphibias, Insects, Worms, Mollusca, Zoophytes, & C. for the Use of Young People, which was published in London by the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge. The print shows a Bleak, Chondrostoma nasus, Minnow, Abramis vimba, Rhodeus amarus, Gudgeon, Barbel, Abramis blicca, Gold Fish, Salmon, and Trout against an off-white background. The print measures 15.625" wide by 12.75" high and has been printed in shades of gray, pale blue, pale brown, pale green, yellow, and orange with touches of pink on fragile paper with a high acid content. The engraving is in good condition, having retained its original colors, sharp lines, and details of each scale and circular marking. The border, however, has discolored and has two small tears at the bottom edge. Ideal for framing.
